Cedar Creek to Love Falls

This is one of my local hikes and is a nice half day of rock hopping with nothing too technical - unless you want to climb up the Love Falls via the rock face - 6 to 7 kms return.  You can climb to the top of the falls via a rock scramble to the right of the base of the falls - the views are well worth the extra climb.

It will take you around 2 hours comfortably to get to the foot of the falls from the end of Cedar Creek Road.  Do not attempt this hike in the wet!  The rocks along Cedar Creek are notoriously slippery when wet - so take care not to walk in any water along the way or you might find yourself the wrong way up very quickly.

There is a lovely pool near the foot of the falls that would be a nice option for a swim in summer without the crowds and the graffiti found at the main falls and swimming hole at Cedar Creek.

The hike/rock hop to Love Creek falls is straight forward.  You follow Cedar Creek up from the car park, past the main swimming hole where Cedar Creek Falls are.  You can either go down to this area and climb up the rock wall near the falls, or there is a path on the right hand side that takes you around the falls if you want to avoid the rock climb/crowds.

Within 50 meters of the top of the falls, you will see a creek coming in from your left that has a rock wall to climb.  This creek has many names from Black Creek to Love Creek.  This is not the creek you are looking for.  This creek has some steep climbs will take you up to Mt Glorious and is usually very overgrown.  The locals at Mt Glorious call this Maiala Creek and people have been known to use this as a circuit with one of the other feeder creeks that come from Greenes Falls.

So from the top of Cedar Creek Falls, continue along the main creek past the Cedar Creek Resort which will appear on the right hand side of the creek.  Continue until you come across a fork in the creek.  You will see some falls on the right.

This is where Love Creek joins into Cedar Creek.  The main flow of water comes from this right fork and this is where you need to climb up.  You can climb up the right hand bank which brings you out at the top of these falls.

If you take the left fork at this point, this should take you up to Greenes Falls at Mt Glorious.  The left fork looks to go straight ahead with a rock wall on your right hand bank.

If you are heading up the right fork to Love Creek, you should be walking on the right bank up a rock shelf.

This is a pretty section of the creek so take your time and enjoy the views!

Love Falls are a series of three drops.  You can climb up to the falls safely by following a rock scramble to the right hand side of the rocks.  There is a series of tree roots which you can use to assist your climb and then about halfway up the scramble you should see a path on your left which will lead to further scrambling up to the top of the third set of falls.

You can continue heading up the creek to the head waters of Love Creek.  Apparently there is a track from the end of Alex Road, Mt Glorious that brings you out at the top section of Love Creek - but don't expect to find an obvious track from the creek side unless you have approached it from Alex Road.

So return the same way you came up - should be a shorter trip home time wise.

Note that there is no graffiti, rubbish or rock piles at this end of the creek.  Please leave no trace if you are going to visit.
